Orientate the notch of the chip to the notch on the socket. Where my thumb is in this picture.

Carefully align the pins of the microchip in the socket. Make sure they are all in their respective locations before you press it in. It may be necessary to start one row of pins in one side, then apply a small amount of side pressure to the microchip to align the second row of pins with the socket.
